History:
The Rising Sun sits at the heart of the village of Clanfield and has been sited there since the 1800’s.  Pretty thatched cottages once surrounded it but most of these were demolished to widen the road and make way for the increased traffic through the village and with this came shopping facilities. A few examples of these charming homes sit right next door to the pub, which at that time would have been accepting deliveries of beer from a horse drawn dray.  The original pub was actually burnt to the ground and a new one was built on the site but then in 1960 this pub was itself demolished. The villagers at this time didn’t want to wait the 18 months quoted to build a new pub so instead they opted for a prefabricated version of a pub and the building of which got into the Guinness Book of Records as the pub that was built in a day from laying the foundations in the morning to serving a pint at 6pm that night!  The Rising Sun has since been rebuilt to what you can enjoy here today.
