About The White Hart South Harting
The White Hart South Harting is a fine old village pub full of character and charm where you’ll be assured of a friendly welcome, whether you join us for a quick drink, one of our delicious home-cooked meals or an overnight stay in our superb guest rooms.
We also have a separate function room ideal for a small private party or corporate events.
Located in the picturesque South Downs village of South Harting, West Sussex, we’re near Petersfield and just a few minutes from the A3, within easy reach of Chichester and Portsmouth. Our pub is an ideal watering hole for anyone walking the South Downs Way.
Close by is the The National Trust property Uppark, where H.G. Wells sometimes lived as a young man when his mother worked as a lady’s maid there. And we have another literary link – the Victorian writer Anthony Trollope spent the last years of his life in South Harting.
The White Hart South Harting is now part of the Upham Group, which owns Upham Brewery as well as several other local pubs in the South of England which have been sensitively upgraded in a way the locals and visitors really appreciate.

“Had lunch with friends this week and could not be better; interesting menu, beautifully prepared and presented food, good wine list, great ambience, service as attentive as can be; and a wonderful day out.” Sandy, Lymington, Tripadvisor
Comfort, peace, tranquillity and a great night’s sleep await at The White Hart.
Our gorgeous en-suite rooms are situated either in the main house or the barn at the rear of the building.
“Stayed at the White Hart for one night while in the area on business and wow what a fabulous place. The room was spacious and modern but had a rustic charm. Absolutely spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable well appointed rooms with lovely toiletries and even a complimentary Wispa bar! The menu in the restaurant had plenty to please every palate. I chose fish and chips it was a beautifully cooked sizeable (huge) portion and absolutely delicious. All this for less than a budget hotel chain. I’m hooked I will be using this every time I’m in the area. I would also be thrilled to come here for a romantic weekend. A wonderful wee place…5 stars!!”. Review, Tripadvisor
