The pub is situated in the centre of the village and is one of three pubs which provide a circuit for local residents and the local church, primary school, shop and bus stops are within a stone’s throw of the pub. Kirk Merrington, being part of the wider area of Spennymoor, has an older age than the national average and much of the activity and entertainment within the villages focuses around the pubs.

Pub Layout

The Half Moon Kirk Merrington is a terraced pub facing the central green in Kirk Merrington. Upon entering through the front porch you are welcomed by a central bar with seating to both the left and right, extending to the back of the building. The pub’s traditional décor is delightful and in excellent condition. There is ample seating and the comfortable and cosy surroundings are a great place for customers to relax and enjoy each other’s company. The toilets are situated to the rear of the building and can be accessed to the left of the bar area. This is also the way out to the beer garden which on sunny days is a real asset to the business.

Half Moon Kirk MerringtonBDM VISION

The Half Moon is closed at the moment, but it should proudly service the residents of Kirk Merrington and form part of the three-pub circuit in the village. It is a locals pub and should be at the heart of the community now and for years to come. The licensee should cater for young and old customers alike and be a champion for the local community. A warm and friendly face behind the bar, the licensee will need to provide excellent quality drinks and a small food offer is appropriate, supported by excellent standards and a welcoming environment. They should look to build ties with the local church and school to become a real hub for the village and in doing so will be well supported by the local residents.
