Vince Hilaire Euro 2020
Monday 21st June
North Macedonia v Netherlands
On paper should be a easy game for the Dutch but still a lot to play for! North Macedonia have to win to stand any chance of going through and the Dutch who are already through will be looking to make some changes in the team to give some more of their exciting rising young stars a game so am definitely expecting goals one way or another.
Pandev of North Macedonia (Genoa) and Depay,Berghuis Holland (of Lyon & Feyenoord) respectively will be the players to watch.
Ukraine v Austria
In theory a draw will probably be enough for both teams but a win will be more beneficial as regards to the next round and opponents but with both teams level on points and evenly matched a tight game is expected. So with it being so level the forwards are going to be vital so Ukraine’s Yarmolenko (West Ham) will be looking to add to his goal tally & Austria’s captain Alaba (Bayern Munich) to have a bit more influence and to show his undoubted class than he has so far particularly as a attacking defender.
Finland v Belgium
Don’t expect a weaker Belgium team as their main players will be looking to continue the good form some of the players are showing! De Bruyne(Man City) who has only played a half so far mind you what a half!!will want some match practice and Lakaku (Inter Milan) wants that golden boot so won’t want a rest and will see this as a opportunity to add to tally. Finland thanks to the Denmark win know a point will probably be enough so will be organised and difficult to break down as they have proved so far and still have Puki (Norwich City) will give them a threat on the occasions they are not defending a interesting game.
Russia v Denmark
Denmark have had a traumatic tournament and are pointless up to now so only a very slight chance of going through but will be looking to go out with a bang and like I say a very slim chance of going through so Braithwaite (Barcelona) & Poulson (Leipzig) are going to be important if there is any chance of progressing to be had. Russia were quite impressive in their win and are in a good position looking strong defensively & efficient up front the main man is Golovin (Monaco) who is a class act and Sobolev (Spartak Moscow) a old fashioned forward who is effective it’s a hard result to call which always makes for the best games hopefully.
Tuesday 22nd June
Croatia v Scotland
A lot is riding on this game as the winner will go through and a draw will not be good enough for either team so I think this will be the best game in the group for that reason. As well as they played against England Scotland with home advantage will be hoping that this is the game that the strikers have their shooting boots on as they have yet to score in this competition so a lot depends on Adams(Southampton) & Dykes(QPR) to start in a game that has to be won but it’s a big blow Gilmour(Chelsea) who was best player on pitch v England will be missing! The Croatians will also be looking for the win as the team hasn’t really got going yet but I expect Modric (Real Madrid) to make one last big effort in what will be his last big finals to drag his talented team through!! What a tense game in prospect.
England v Czech Rep
These two teams are through and it only remains to be seen who they play in the knockout phase. At the moment England have gone from efficient v Croatia to patchy v Scotland so the country will expect some improvement the big question is how to get Harry Kane(Spurs) back among the goals? Expect England to try and get the (Man City) duo Stirling & Foden much more in support of the England captain and we may see a start for Harry Maguire (Man Utd) in preparation for the knock out stages. In contrast the Czech’s look to have Schick(Leverkusen) as there talisman as we predicted at start of tournament and with the (West Ham) duo Soucek & Coufal who know the England player’s well will hope to make it tough for the Three Lions! let’s not forget this team ran out reasonably comfortable winners v Scotland at Hampden Park so England’s fans should not expect nothing else other than a very close game from two teams for once looking at the next game in the competition to make progress.
