The Burnt Chef project awarded them with ‘Best Mental Health in the Workplace Strategy’ at Hospitality’s Mental Health Heroes 2024 event that was held at ExCel in London recently.
A fantastic time was had by all, surrounded by like-minded hospitality businesses, all striving to tackle mental health stigma and support wellbeing within our industry.

The Burnt Chef Project was founded in 2019 and is a community interest project (non profit) designed for one purpose: to burn away the stigma surrounding mental health in the worldwide hospitality trade. Engaging with staff across the hospitality trade in order to destigmatise mental health issues and generate donations in order to continue to train front line staff in Mental health and business owners in better working conditions.
Their incredible work is raising awareness for mental health issues within the hospitality trade.
Our friends at Marstons are incredibly proud that their mental health strategy has been commended, as they continue to improve and evolve mental health support for their people. Everyone at Marston’s has access to support tools and wellbeing materials, including an Employee Assistance Programme with AXA and relationship and support counselling with the Licensed Trade Charity. They also continue to partner with the Burnt Chef Project, providing their people with further resources, and supporting the Burnt Chef Project’s wider initiatives.
Their mental health strategy is also supported by the Balance Network, one of their employee-led inclusion groups. The Balance Network empowers everyone to find their balance through good health and wellbeing, providing space for people to open up and support their co-workers.
