Isle of Wight Distillery, producers of Mermaid Gin, Mermaid Salt Vodka and Mermaid Spiced Rum sponsored the very first Sail to Reward Regatta, which took place in the Solent, launching from Ocean Village on 19 th June 2023. The Sail to Reward Regatta raised a staggering total of £20,650 for the Room to Reward charity, which supports volunteers in charities and community groups by teaming up with hotels to offer short breaks in unsold rooms for these Hidden Heroes.

The Isle of Wight Distillery recently announced their partnership with Prometheus Sailing and Sunsail UK to launch Mermaid Spirit Yacht, which sailed in the regatta. As part of the ongoing three-year partnership with B Corp certified Isle of Wight Distillery, Prometheus Sailing have renamed one of their one- design Jeanneau 410 charter yachts Mermaid Spirit, which flies a new spinnaker with the Mermaid branding. On board Mermaid Spirit was team Nicolas James Group whose Chair, Nicolas Roach, is the Room to Reward Charity’s founder.
The Sail to Reward Regatta is a new event for 2023, bringing teams together from the hotel and business sector. The first regatta was a roaring success, with teams from Harbour Hotels, NFU Mutual, Savills, Homegrown Hotels and Meridien Modena Ferrari, amongst others, competing on a modern fleet of 41.0 Sunsail yachts, with an unforgettable day on the water provided by Prometheus Sailing.The teams and their dinner guests were then hosted by Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa and enjoyed a three-course meal in The Bow, overlooking the Solent. The Mermaid spirit-infused meal was crafted by Harbour Hotels’ Michelin Star Chef Patron, Alex Aiken. A charity auction also took place, with generous gifts provided by sponsors to raise vital funds for Room to Reward. The winning team, Starboard Hotels, was presented with the Mermaid trophy, sponsored by Mermaid Gin.
As part of their ongoing partnership, Prometheus Sailing will also use the award-winning Mermaid collection in all events and those taking part will have the opportunity to taste all Mermaid spirits at pre-sail and after-sail drinks when chartering Prometheus Sailing yachts. Mermaid G&T’s will be served at all welcome parties before Prometheus Sailing regattas and Mermaid will be the after-sail drink served during Cowes Week Regatta for all Prometheus Sailing charter yachtsmen.

Rooted in the natural landscape of a unique island, they are the Isle of Wight’s first and only distillery. Founders Xavier and Conrad along with their small team distil spirits shaped by their stunning surroundings and the unique character of the island. Doing things differently, minimising waste, using ethically sourced and often local, foraged ingredients to craft a range of smooth, complex spirits.
Their signature spirit Mermaid Gin delivers a smooth yet complex blend of fresh organic lemon zest and peppery grains of paradise, with a hint of sea air from locally foraged, fragrant rock samphire – a refreshing and invigorating serve. Mermaid’s name was inspired by its lead botanical rock samphire, known locally as ‘mermaid’s kiss’.
Alongside Mermaid Gin, they produce subtly sweet, naturally flavoured Mermaid Pink Gin, infused with fresh Island strawberries grown in the rich and fertile microclimate of the Arreton valley and Mermaid Salt Vodka (a favourite with mixologists), using salt harvested from the flood tide off the island’s southern coast. Mermaid is naturally vegan and gluten-free.
