The Crown Colliery is an end terrace building on Hedworth Lane, Boldon Colliery. Located in South Tyneside the area is one of three villages: East Boldon, West Boldon and Boldon Colliery. The area emerged in the late 1870’s around a coal pit with the additional housing built to house the workforce which then created Boldon Colliery. Collectively they have a population of 13,271 and have excellent transport links via the metro link and with the A184 leading to the A1 motorway.
Pub Layout
The main area of the Crown is spacious and dominated by the central servery bar, visible to the customer upon entrance and from all areas of the pub. There is a mixture of fixed benches alongside a mixture of loose seating and bar stools creating the perfect social space. Popular for televised and team sports there is a designated area with pool table, gaming machines and darts board which is regularly utilised by the local teams and TV’s on walls around the site. The site does have a separate function room on the first floor which could be used to encourage private events or local charities/meetings to hold their events there. Externally there is a small yard to the rear of the pub with a small smoking solution. The crown was recently refurbished in 2022 to a very high standard and this is visible by the warmth and exceptional standards throughout.

Ideally the new licensee should have knowledge of the area, have the ability to unlock the untapped growth potential for wet sales and be creative and passionate about local events. A strong marketing plan incorporating televised and pub sports, quizzes and local charity events, alongside building on the established trade will ensure the Crown will continue to be the pride of the local community.
