We are looking for operator(s) to develop this country pub known for great ale, friendly service and good quality food. These operator(s) should be keen to become a member of the community and building a solid reputation locally for great service and known for creating great guest experiences. The ideal candidate needs to have good experience in food and drink and a great understanding of a trading profile and ideally experience of running your own pub is a requirement for this site.
The Opportunity
You can have the best of both worlds with our new and exciting Pillar Agreement. Support is key for this turnover-share agreement which shares the risk and the opportunities between both parties, creating a partnership and focus to give your guests a first-class experience. We share the net sales and some of the cost base – building a deal that gives both parties a solid base to build and grow a profitable business.
What’s in it for you?

- Free membership to the BII for the duration of your agreement.
- Support obtaining your personal licence
- Accommodation provided with utility bills covered, except the council tax.
- Call on us to cover the cost of repairs, fixtures and fittings (except private residential accommodation).
- Your drinks stock and all associated consumables are supplied for free by Marston’s, although you will be responsible for managing it once it has been delivered.
- Comprehensive induction training and ongoing support and training.
- A dedicated business development manager working with you to help you grow the business.
- Access to our 450 strong-support teams whenever you need them – including Marketing, Recruitment and Food and Drink specialists.
- All our Pub Partners get access to our FREE Learning, Development and Training platform Campus (a package worth over £300!).
What we expect from you:
In addition to the £5k security deposit required for this agreement, you will need to cover legal costs (£360 inc VAT), and your own insurance (except building insurance, which we’ll cover). Also, you’ll want to start thinking about your team; taking care of paying them and all other employment matters.
Before we all sign the agreement and see you heading into a whole new life, you’ll need to show us proof that you’ve had independent financial and legal advice and have completed a sustainable business plan, in accordance with the Pubs Code. If needed, we can assist you in obtaining your personal licence and will enrol you onto our BII accredited induction training. In addition, we will provide you with free membership to the BII who can provide the impartial, professional advice you need when entering into, and for the lifetime of your agreement.
It’s a five-year commitment, so you have loads of time to build the business and get it performing brilliantly but, if you do want to leave early, there’s always the option of six months’ notice with a ‘break’ clause in the contract.
