Overview
We are looking for a pub operator to run the Corner Pin on Marston’s Retail Agreement – a self-employed partnership with no rent, no utility bills and the chance to be your own boss!
The Corner Pin in situated in the beautiful historic City of York and has been a part of the city’s pub landscape for many years. Its a 5 minute walk from the train station and just round the corner from the City Walls.
Traditional in style the bar is in the corner of the pub with seating opposite and a small but cosy snug behind it with a larger room as you walk through the entrance to the pub that also has a Darts board. There’s a good size beer garden with a Gazebo to the left of the pub which is popular all year round. There is a kitchen on site giving the opportunity for a retailer own food offer to be implemented.
Corner Pin is being offered on the Retail Agreement with a 20% retailer fee, which will change to 18% wet and 100% food once an own-food offer is started.
We are looking for an operator/s who are able to demonstrate how they build alliance with a wide variety of businesses and groups to drive the business forward. An operator/s with the ability to think outside of the box in generating creative sales ideas and excelling in customer service is a must.

Things to consider
In addition to the £5k security deposit and legal fees required for this agreement, you will need to cover your own insurance, except building insurance, which we’ll cover. Also, you’ll want to start thinking about your team; taking care of paying them and all other employment matters.Before we all sign the agreement and see you heading into a whole new life, you’ll just need to show us proof that you’ve had independent financial advice from an accountant and solicitor, as dictated by the Statutory Pub Code. And, of course, obtain your personal licence (which we’ll help with) and complete your induction training.
It’s a five-year commitment, so you have loads of time to build the business and get it performing brilliantly but, if you do want to leave early, there’s always the option of six months’ notice with a ‘break’ clause in the contract.
