DESCRIPTION
The Royal & Ancient is a striking and almost Gothic style, stone built building located on Dalton Bank on the outskirts of Colnebridge which is four miles from Huddersfield. This pub holds the title of Huddersfield’s oldest pub and it is steeped in history which dates back to the 17th century. The pub is located a very short drive away from all of the local amenities and next to the pub is a long row of terraced housing making the pub not only a great place to travel to for delicious home cooked food and a wide range of drinks but also a cosy local too
About the Pub – The Royal & Ancient Huddersfield
Pub Layout
As you walk up to the pub you can use either the side entrance or the front entrance which has a big double front and grand feel. The exposed brick bar is long and runs through most of the pub, it is cosy, welcoming and well decorated with bar stools and wing back chairs giving a grand and historic feel to the space. The dining area split into two sections, to the right is an area where families and larger groups usually dine and can cater up to 40 covers. In front of the bar and to the left is a more relaxed dining area for up to 30 covers and this area is usually used for smaller groups or meeting with a friend or two for a bite to lunch and a coffee. The commercial kitchen is fully equipped and is located to the right of the bar servery. The pub is full of traditional features from beams to real fires and it has a great atmosphere. Externally and to the front of the pub are benches for those wanting to eat out in the summer months and to the left of the building is a covered smoking shelter. The pub sits on its own land and has a large car park for up to twenty cars, this is a great space and could potentially be used for community events in the warmer months.
TRADING STYLE
The pub is a drive to destination food pub so relies heavily on people driving from near and far for a delicious home cooked meal. The pub offers a wide selection of hand pulled cask ales, beers and lagers as well as premium gins, vodkas and whiskeys. The pub is on the larger side and would need good management, along with someone who has good standards and good marketing skills to promote the pub and what it has to offer to make sure people keep coming back for more. Also great people skills will be needed to manage and exceptional team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to really put their own stamp on an already good pub and it has the potential to host community events and become more of a local pub also.
