About The George & Dragon Inn
Dating back to the early 18th century, The George stands next to the site of the original north walls gatehouse and is conveniently located just 500 yards from the Old Town Cross and Cathedral.
Offering good locally sourced food, they bring a calm and efficient approach to service. Don’t miss their ‘Tapas & Tipple’ night on Thursday for a great food offer!
The busy bar has the warm, friendly atmosphere of a ‘proper’ pub. There are open fires, numerous ales on hand pump and a carefully curated wine by the glass.
The back bar boasts a great range of spirits, with 24 speciality gins. The open log fire warms and welcomes in the winter months and the decking garden beckons in the summer.
Dogs are welcome in the bar area but are not allowed in the inside dining areas (with the exception of guide dogs.)
Under 18years are not permitted in the bar area or garden after 8.30pm
They give their own take on British pub classic dishes making use of their great local produce, fish & meats.
Diners enjoy the light and airy space of the conservatory, which has large double doors that open out onto the decked courtyard for alfresco dining in the warmer months. Dishes are prepared passionately and imaginatively by their new head chef and his dedicated team.
The menu at The George comprises of great breakfasts, local fish dishes, gourmet burgers, pub classics and modern tapas dishes.
Booking is recommended in either their conservatory dining room or bar area, however the same menu is available in the Bar (and in good weather in the sunny garden).
The beautifully renovated converted stables at the rear of The George houses ten en-suite bedrooms, these are perfect for a special break or a business stay and are available for a single nights stay or longer.
The stables now comprise of two large doubles, four doubles and four twin rooms. All rooms have flatscreen TVs, free wireless internet access, hairdryer and coffee/tea making facilities and every overnight stay includes breakfast served in the conservatory.
