We’re proud to announce that Proper Pubs is investing £290,000 in a full refurbishment of this iconic community pub located in Bournemouth. This transformation will breathe new life into the building whilst celebrating its original charm. The exterior will be refreshed with a striking new colour scheme, bringing a bold, contemporary feel to this much-loved community space. Brand-new signage, an enhanced entrance canopy, and beautifully planted greenery will make The Athelstan more welcoming than ever. The interior of the pub will be tastefully decorated, utilising every space of the pub and enhancing it's much loved features, it’s set to become a true hub for locals. This investment marks our ongoing commitment to revitalising great British pubs at the heart of their communities offering great value, a warm atmosphere, and a place where everyone feels at home.
Pub Layout
As you arrive at The Athelstan, you’ll enter through the main front doors, stepping directly into the heart of a vibrant and welcoming bar area. To your right, you'll notice a cosy snug with intimate seating and plenty of character, perfect for quieter drinks or catching up with friends. Moving further in, the central bar stretches around, providing quick service access to all main areas. The main lounge wraps around the front of the building, flooded with natural light from large windows, and furnished with a mixture of comfy chairs and tables. To your left, you’ll find a dedicated games area, complete with pool tables, TV screens, feature darts wall and ample space for socialising. This section offers a more energetic vibe, great for sports fans or a night out. Outside, through one of several doors, you’ll step into the large beer garden, beautifully laid out with seating areas, planters, festoon lighting and shaded spaces under trees and parasols, a great space to keep the atmosphere flowing. The pub also includes staff areas, offices, and ample storage tucked neatly behind the scenes. On-site parking is located directly in front of the entrance, whilst getting to The Athelstan Arms on foot is easy and hassle-free.
The private accommodation consists of four bedrooms, lounge, dining room, kitchen and bathroom with separate WC all of which will have benefited from redecoration. This is a perfect space for a couple or family.

This opportunity is for you to run your own pub as a self-employed manager taking home 18.5% of the net weekly sales plus incentives. Admiral Taverns take care of all the running costs including rates, utilities, stock and day to day running costs, whilst you take care of the employment costs relating to your staff, council tax and TV licence for the residential quarters.
All new operators have comprehensive free training as part of their agreement.

You should have a love for live sports a keen understanding of transitioning day to night, and the creativity to deliver a packed calendar of engaging events. You will need to be confident in leading and building a great team, setting high standards, create a pub that is always clean, safe, welcoming and full of atmosphere always, above all you must be obsessed about community and all the great things you can expect comes with being part of that. The pub already has some strong foundations in place, a known name great for sports and live events, and a central location with the right person at the helm, it could be the place to watch the match, party at weekends, relax after work, or soak up the sunshine in the beautiful garden we will create with the new investment. I’m looking for someone dynamic and driven who can match the energy of the town and turn the pub in to the best venue and the chosen pub for local and visitors alike.
