The Farmers Arms is a community pub in the heart of the Welsh valley town of Rhymney. Set off the main thoroughfare, the pub has excellent off-road parking facilities. It is in great condition and benefits from a horseshoe bar servery that naturally separates the trading area into bar and lounge. It also has a function room with its own bar and a large kitchen serving food all day long. Inside, the bar area has an open fire with stone brick walls, adding to its character. The entrance porch leads to a small hallway, to the right of which is the bar and to the left, a lounge and function room. The bar servery is a central island, with three separate counters for serving the different areas of the pub. Traditionally appointed throughout, half-timbered walls, cast-iron table legs, and high-backed settles lend a homely atmosphere, complemented by the large open fireplace. The bar can accommodate around 20 covers and also houses a large screen TV for sports viewing. From the bar, there is access to the back room and through to the lounge, which can seat up to 30 covers and is of a similar character and style to the bar. Access to the private function room is via a separate entrance; it can accommodate around 45 covers and benefits from having its own bar servery. It is an excellent space for holding parties and events, and is also used by the local community for a number of regular gatherings. The pub has a well-equipped trade kitchen, located to the rear of the trading area, which is able to support a traditional pub menu.
The Farmers Arms is a two-story white building, with a Welsh slate roof and a single-story extension to the left-hand side. Off-road parking is available immediately in front of the pub, and the south-west facing garden is furnished with picnic tables, enjoying the views across the valley.
Comprising three bedrooms, a lounge, and a bathroom, the living accommodation is in excellent condition throughout; however, the small kitchen has no gas supply.
