The ideal operator will have previously operated a food led business that engages with locals and visitors. We’re looking for someone or a duo who can forge strong community ties with a proven track record of recruiting, training, and motivating a talented team.
You’ll ensure that the Chequers serves the best pint in the area and the best sunday roast, where friends and families gather and new friendships start.
The Pub and location
The Chequers is located in the village of Lytchett Matravers, situated at the gateway to the Purbeck Hills and the Dorset heathland, overlooking Poole Harbour. Lytchett Matravers is an historic village, sitting almost equidistant from Wimborne, Poole and Wareham and therefore benefitting from a large catchment area.
The pub benefited from significant investment at the start of 2025, to help accentuate the traditional pub charm of the building, to elevate the kerb appeal and enhance the outside space.
The guest area is split into a number of different areas following multiple extensions over the years. The bar is in a lovely snug, with cosy lighting, and low ceilings, perfect for sitting and whiling away the time whilst enjoying that perfectly conditioned pint of ale. To the side of the pub is a light, airy conservatory, ideal for functions and dining, and that with a plethora of beautiful plants feels more like a beautiful Orangery, even with the original tiles! Whilst to the rear of the building is a large dining area where the carvery deck is located. As well as the outside guest space to the front of the pub, there is a secluded courtyard to the rear.
All of these areas have been totally transformed during the investment process.
