The pub proved to be very popular back in the day, back when Her Majesty Queen Anne was reputed to have stayed there at some point during her reign of England, Scotland and Ireland between 1702 and 1707.
Even the Archbishop of Canterbury was reputed to have stayed there, along with the likes of infamous highwayman Dick Turpin.
Dick Turpin was seen lurking around the establishment, as the highwayman evaded capture from the law by hiding out at this spot.
