ABOUT THE WINNING POST WINKFIELD
The Winning Post Winkfield is a beautiful character pub, restaurant and inn, set in quiet countryside close to both Ascot and Windsor.
We’re the perfect place to meet with friends and family and enjoy wonderful food or a refreshing drink, seven days a week. The pub’s 18th Century building, which houses our bar and restaurant, has many cosy nooks and crannies with an original stone floor and huge open fire. We also have a private dining area, suitable for up to 20 people, for a special occasion.
Our 10 bright and spacious rooms – eight double and two twins – were upgraded in April 2016 to give you a more peaceful and comfortable overnight stay at The Winning Post.
Despite The Winning Post’s rural location in tranquil Winkfield, it’s close to Heathrow airport, Windsor, Ascot and Eton and is set within the stunning Berkshire countryside, making us an ideal spot for both business and pleasure. The Winning Post has been a particular favourite with equine-inclined folk, who are spoilt for choice with Ascot and Royal Windsor racecourses and The Royal County of Berkshire and Guards Polo Clubs on our doorstep. BRIEF HISTORY – The Winning Post Winkfield
The 1813 Enclosure map of Winkfield shows the land, meadow, orchard and cottage owned by Anne Gray. Since then we know very little until the pub was owned in the 1980’s by Iris Williams (nee Singer), who renamed it The Pheasant Plucker. The pub changed hands again and became The Cottage Inn in 1992 before being sold to the Upham Pub Company in 2010. The pub was refurbished and changed its name to The Winning Post when it reopened in 2011.
